Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which debuted in theaters last week, has achieved unprecedented box office success, breaking records that were once thought to be unassailable. The film notably surpassed the opening weekend earnings of Avengers: Endgame in North America. In India, its initial weekend performance rivaled that of major hits like Pathaan and Animal. Impressively, within just 11 days of its release, the film has crossed the ₹400-crore mark at the Indian box office, a milestone reached by only a handful of films from both Hollywood and India. With a strong showing in its second weekend, the film appears to be maintaining its momentum.
Tom Holland's fourth solo outing as Spider-Man launched with a historic ₹60 crore net in India, marking the highest debut for a Hollywood film in the nation. The film amassed ₹254 crore net during its opening weekend. Following a successful first week, Brand New Day continued to thrive, adding ₹15 crore on its second Friday and an impressive ₹31 crore on Saturday. By the conclusion of its second weekend, the film's net collection in India reached ₹391 crore ($49.2 million), with estimates suggesting it could close Sunday at around ₹420 crore net ($53 million). This trajectory indicates it may soon eclipse Avengers: Endgame’s record of $61 million, the highest collection for a Hollywood film in India.
The achievement of a ₹400-crore run by Spider-Man: Brand New Day is historic, as it joins the ranks of only one other film, Avatar: The Way of Water, which has reached this milestone in India. By Sunday evening, Brand New Day is expected to exceed Avatar's ₹403 crore. However, the film's competition is not limited to Hollywood; its rapid earnings are now challenging some of the highest-grossing Indian films. As of Sunday, Brand New Day has outperformed films featuring stars like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Vijay, with its earnings surpassing Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan (₹320 crore), Vijay’s Leo (₹341 crore), and Aamir’s Dangal (₹387 crore).
Currently, Brand New Day is on track to catch up to the Indian box office giants Pathaan (₹543 crore) and Animal (₹554 crore). Given its current momentum, it is plausible that it could even surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s highest-grossing film, Jawan (₹640 crore), before its theatrical run concludes. The film continues to enjoy a robust presence, with over 13,000 shows across 4,000 screens in India, and it faces no significant competition until the release of Toxic on August 26.
