Snoop Dogg's New Role in 'The Faith of Long Beach'
Renowned rapper and actor Snoop Dogg is set to share the screen with Brandon Perea in the forthcoming boxing film titled "The Faith of Long Beach," as reported by industry sources. This project, which will be both penned and helmed by Eric Amadio, aims to depict the journey of a quiet street fighter who grows up in a group home in Long Beach. The storyline focuses on his efforts to rise above a challenging past while striving for a career in professional boxing and seeking to reconnect with his estranged father's legacy.
Amadio highlighted that this film goes beyond the conventional sports drama, exploring deeper themes of faith and perseverance. He remarked, "The title suggests that this isn't merely a coming-of-age boxing story; it's also about believing in oneself when no one else does, and having faith in those who continue to support you." He expressed his confidence in the cast, stating, "With Brandon, I instantly recognized my complex fighter. And with Snoop, I have the genuine OG who understands every aspect of that journey and still believes in him."
Although the specific character Snoop Dogg will play has yet to be revealed, the film is being produced by Adonis Tountas for Everlast Pictures, along with Snoop Dogg and Sara Ramaker for Death Row Pictures. The project was initially announced in March 2022, with rapper Common originally set to co-star with Perea, though the reasons for his exit remain unknown.
Snoop Dogg expressed his enthusiasm for being part of "The Faith of Long Beach," stating, "This story resonates deeply—it's filled with heart, resilience, struggle, and redemption, all embodying the spirit of Long Beach. This one has soul." Producer Tountas added to this sentiment, emphasizing the unique partnership, "Collaborating with Snoop and Sara on this film signifies a remarkable fusion of creative vision and cultural authenticity."
As a 16-time Grammy nominee, Snoop Dogg recently attended CinemaCon to promote his upcoming biopic from Universal Pictures. Filming for "The Faith of Long Beach" is scheduled to commence in Los Angeles later this summer, featuring Jonathan Daviss as the rapper. Directed by Craig Brewer, this project will be produced under Death Row's overall agreement with NBCUniversal Entertainment, alongside Brian Grazer. Beyond his music career, Snoop Dogg has made appearances in various films and television series, including "BMF," "Day Shift," and "Dolemite Is My Name."
