Richard Simmons' Iconic Hollywood Hills Home Sold: A Glimpse into Its Unique Charm
Richard Simmons' Beloved Residence Finds New Owner
The historic Hollywood Hills home of the late fitness icon Richard Simmons has officially changed hands, selling for $3,827,500. This sale marks the end of a protracted selling journey that began nearly a year after Simmons' passing in July 2024.
The property, a 1937 Neo-Classical Revival Colonial perched above the Sunset Strip, first hit the market in June 2025 with an asking price close to $7 million. After several price cuts and a brief withdrawal from the market in early 2026, the final sale price was considerably lower than the original listing. Reports indicate that the new owner aims to maintain the home's distinctive character while restoring its classic architectural features.
A Unique Sanctuary with Distinctive Features
Covering 4,977 square feet, the estate boasts four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Unlike the typical modern luxury homes in the Hollywood Hills, this residence is celebrated for its unique and personal style. The interior includes traditional living and dining areas, a primary suite, a guest suite with a private entrance, an office, and a gym located in the attic—a tribute to Simmons' fitness legacy.
The outdoor space is equally remarkable, featuring terraced gardens, an expansive lawn, and a swimming pool designed in the shape of a key. Inside, the home is adorned with intricate details, including a staircase embellished with cherub sculptures, patterned wallpaper, and elegantly curved French patio doors. For Simmons, who largely stepped back from the public eye in 2014, this house served as a peaceful retreat from his long-standing career in fitness and television.
The Legacy of a Fitness Legend
Born Milton Teagle Simmons in 1948, this fitness pioneer became a household name thanks to his energetic exercise routines and the popular 'Sweatin’ to the Oldies' video series. After launching his Beverly Hills studio, Slimmons, in 1974, he dedicated his life to promoting his fitness philosophy. He passed away at the age of 76 in his Los Angeles home on July 13, 2024.
Although the property has now been sold, its legacy remains intertwined with the life of the man who called it home for most of his adult life. The new owner, reportedly captivated by the home's rich history, intends to honor its past while embarking on the restoration journey.
