Reese Witherspoon Reclaims Hello Sunshine: A New Era Begins!
Reese Witherspoon Takes Charge of Hello Sunshine
Reese Witherspoon has successfully regained complete ownership of her production company, Hello Sunshine, signaling a major change in its corporate framework. The actress, who established the media firm in 2016, has finalized a buyout from Candle Media, a Blackstone-backed entity that purchased the studio for $900 million during the peak of the streaming boom in 2021.
The buyout was made possible through a collaboration between Witherspoon and Pierre-Antoine Capton, the CEO of the prominent European independent studio, Mediawan. While the initial sale in 2021 was valued at nearly a billion dollars, sources suggest that the recent buyback occurred at a significant discount, with the price falling within the low-to-mid eight-figure range. This transition effectively returns the company to the hands of its founder and her new strategic ally.

Strategic Shift and Future Development
The decision by Candle Media to sell the asset comes amid reports of the company grappling with substantial debt, estimated at around $1 billion. To alleviate this financial burden, the company has been divesting various assets, resulting in Hello Sunshine's return to Witherspoon's ownership. Capton, who has been actively broadening his media presence through acquisitions like Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Peter Chernin’s North Road, confirmed the successful completion of the transaction.
Regarding the financial aspects of the deal, Capton mentioned that the funds involved are aimed at fostering future growth. He emphasized that the acquisition of 100% of Hello Sunshine by himself and Witherspoon, in partnership with Mediawan, is geared towards investing in content creation and development rather than merely transferring ownership.
Witherspoon expressed her enthusiasm about this transition, referring to it as a homecoming that resonates with the evolving demands of the media industry. In her statement, she acknowledged the contributions of her former partners, Peter Chernin and Jesse Jacobs, while reiterating her dedication to the company's future. She expressed pride in the achievements of her team thus far and is eager to embark on the next chapter of development under the new ownership structure.
