Nicholas Galitzine's Journey to Becoming He-Man

Nicholas Galitzine has opened up about the extensive preparation he underwent to portray the legendary He-Man in the recently released film 'Masters of the Universe.' The 31-year-old actor discussed his rigorous diet and workout plan in a recent 'Train Like' video for Men's Health, highlighting the physical demands he faced while preparing for this pivotal role. Galitzine previously referred to the process of gaining muscle for the film as the toughest challenge of his career, and his insights in the video emphasize the depth of his dedication.

He elaborated on how his training routine changed throughout the filming. "After I had bulked up, my daily He-Man workout focused on maintaining the muscle mass I had developed," he shared. Juggling workouts alongside a hectic shooting schedule was particularly challenging. "We limited weight training to about 45 minutes, but we aimed for at least an hour and a half of cardio each day," he explained. Often, he had to fit in quick cardio sessions between takes, which he found mentally draining.

Since wrapping up the film, Galitzine's fitness regimen has altered considerably. "I've been working on various roles that don't necessitate such a large physique," he mentioned, recalling a discussion with his next director who advised him to ease off on workouts shortly after completing 'He-Man.' "I really miss my He-Man workouts," he confessed, reflecting on the commitment he made during his transformation.

The dietary aspects of his role were equally challenging. Galitzine's weight fluctuated from around 80 kilos to between 103 and 105 kilos before he trimmed down to approximately 91 kilos for filming. "One of the toughest parts of gaining size is that it's hard to add pure muscle without also gaining some fat," he noted, admitting that he struggled with his identity at over 100 kilos. During his bulking phase, he consumed between 4,000 and 5,000 calories a day, often finding himself eating his sixth meal late at night, which he described as "very depressing."

As he moved into the cutting phase, Galitzine encountered new hurdles in keeping his energy levels up while eating less. "With a film like this that involves a lot of stunt work, you need to maintain your energy," he stated. He modified his diet to incorporate more fats and fewer carbohydrates, seeking small joys to lift his spirits, such as indulging in a Coke Zero during the day. 'Masters of the Universe' is currently playing in theaters, showcasing Galitzine's impressive transformation and commitment to the character.
