In a recent discussion, Matt Damon conveyed his excitement about portraying Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's grand adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey." He described the experience as "fantastic" and labeled it as "the experience of a lifetime," emphasizing the film's epic scope and its ties to his past roles that often revolve around a journey home. He mentioned, "The films where I find myself returning home include 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Interstellar', 'The Martian', and this one. I'm thrilled to keep getting lost in these narratives," reflecting on the recurring motifs in his filmography.

This adaptation of "The Odyssey" represents Nolan's inaugural grand premiere in India, and Damon expressed his joy in portraying a character from a narrative that has influenced countless stories over nearly three millennia. He remarked that taking on the role of the weary hero, who confronts vengeful deities and mythical beings on his ten-year trek back to Ithaca, allowed him to channel nearly forty years of industry experience into this pivotal character.

Describing this film as the most demanding of his career, the 55-year-old actor shared insights into the rigorous filming conditions, which involved climbing mountains and shooting in caves. "Some days began with a mountain hike and concluded with another descent at the end of the day," he noted.
