During a recent earnings call, Lionsgate executive Adam Fogelson disclosed that nearly 30% of the sequel has already been filmed, with development progressing swiftly. The next installment is anticipated to explore Jackson's later musical phases, his time at Neverland Ranch, various legal battles, and numerous untold stories from his remarkable career.
Details on the Sequel
About Michael sequel
The initial film depicted Michael Jackson's journey from a young talent in the Jackson 5 to his status as the King of Pop, but it ended abruptly during the Bad World Tour at Wembley Stadium. This conclusion hinted at an unfinished story, and now Lionsgate has confirmed that a sequel is indeed on the horizon. During the quarterly earnings call on May 21, Fogelson shared that discussions about the sequel are progressing exceptionally well. According to reports, the studio is optimistic about the next chapter, believing there is still a wealth of intriguing material to explore from Jackson's life and career.
Fogelson noted that the sequel may not adhere to a linear timeline. Instead, the creative team is contemplating a narrative that moves both forwards and backwards, emphasizing significant events that were either overlooked or only briefly mentioned in the first film. This could encompass Jackson's Dangerous and Invincible eras, the establishment of Neverland Ranch, and various pivotal personal and professional achievements.
Interestingly, a studio representative indicated that approximately 25 to 30 percent of the sequel's filming has already been completed. Much of this footage was originally intended for the third part of 'Michael' before creative and legal adjustments were made. Previous reports suggested that the original conclusion addressed the child abuse allegations against Jackson. However, due to a legal stipulation linked to a past settlement with accuser Jordan Chandler, the filmmakers had to significantly modify the ending and reshoot parts of the film. While those contentious scenes could not be included, other unused footage may now be incorporated into the sequel.
