A Historic Las Vegas Gem Up for Grabs

A remarkable estate in Las Vegas, once owned by the iconic country singer Kenny Rogers, has officially been listed for sale. Situated at 500 Shetland Road in the Alta Drive Historic District, this property is currently on the market for $3.95 million. The listing was made public on July 23 by Anthony Spiegel from a local real estate agency.

The home was originally built in 1970 by Jerry Herbst, the founder of the Terrible Herbst company. After Herbst, it was owned by Kenny Rogers and subsequently by Lynne Ruffin, the ex-wife of casino tycoon Phil Ruffin. The current owner, attorney Sam Mirejovsky, purchased the estate from the Ruffin family in 2022 and expanded the property by acquiring an adjacent lot, increasing the total area to over two acres.

Plans for a Grand Mediterranean Mansion

Upon taking ownership, Mirejovsky envisioned transforming the estate into a vast 20,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style mansion. However, the ambitious project was eventually put on hold. Buyers are now presented with a 7,249-square-foot home that is described as updated yet incomplete. While the exterior remains intact, the interior has been stripped down, although essential infrastructure such as new framing, electrical wiring, and HVAC ducting has been installed.

Mirejovsky explained that the decision to halt the project stemmed from evolving family needs as his children approached college age, making such a large home impractical. Despite the current state of the project, the sale includes detailed architectural plans that would enable a new owner to easily complete the construction.

Historic Significance and Future Possibilities

The proposed mansion design features an entertainment-centric layout with nine to ten bedrooms, a large swimming pool, and a front fountain. Plans also included a subterranean garage, with soil testing already completed. The property benefits from access to a community well and associated water rights, intended to support the planned water features.

Located in the prestigious Alta Drive Historic District, the estate is surrounded by notable Las Vegas personalities, including Steve Wynn and Irwin Molasky. Listing agent Anthony Spiegel emphasized the rarity of such an offering, noting that interest in the historic district has surged to levels not seen since the 1970s. With its rich history and vast development potential, this property stands out in the competitive Las Vegas luxury real estate market.
