Jennifer Lawrence Takes on a New Sci-Fi Role

Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in the upcoming science fiction thriller titled The Flood. This film represents a fresh collaboration with director Zach Cregger, who will also write and produce the project under Warner Bros’ New Line Cinema.

The film is based on an original idea crafted by Cregger, and it is scheduled for a global theatrical release in August 2028. This production marks a reunion for Cregger and New Line Cinema, following their recent collaboration on his previous film, Weapons.

A Promising Partnership for New Line Cinema

The collaboration between Cregger and the studio has generated excitement among Warner Bros. Motion Picture executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. They expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement, praising Lawrence's talent and indicating their eagerness to support Cregger’s artistic vision for The Flood. The film will be produced in partnership with Vertigo Entertainment and Amblin Entertainment, with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon as producers.

Cregger shared his excitement about working with Lawrence, calling her a distinctive talent. This project comes on the heels of a successful period for Cregger, whose last film, Weapons, performed well at the box office in 2025. He is also involved in another project with Sony and Constantin, which has reportedly exceeded $200 million in global ticket sales.

Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Academy Award for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, continues to juggle a variety of high-profile projects. Her extensive filmography includes notable roles in the Hunger Games series and her recent Golden Globe-nominated performance in Die My Love.

Looking forward, Lawrence is also attached to the film What Happens at Night, which she will produce through her company, Excellent Cadaver. She is set to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in a Martin Scorsese-directed feature. As for The Flood, it is still in the early development stages, with its wide release planned for late summer 2028.
