Christopher Nolan's newest film, The Odyssey, is creating a significant impact at the global box office, raking in an astonishing $346 million during its opening week. This impressive figure not only marks Nolan's highest opening to date but also places The Odyssey among the top-grossing films of 2026. Reports indicate that the film's earnings in its first week rival those of some of Hollywood's biggest hits, showcasing its ability to thrive on positive audience feedback rather than just initial weekend excitement.

With a production budget of around $250 million, The Odyssey recouped its costs within just three days of its release. The film had a robust start in North America, generating $124.5 million from 3,919 theaters during its opening weekend. Internationally, it added another $139.6 million across 73 territories in the same period. According to Deadline, the film continued its strong performance, earning $18.05 million domestically on Wednesday, bringing its total to $181.6 million after six days.

When compared to Nolan's earlier projects, The Odyssey is outpacing Oppenheimer, which had a six-day domestic total of $117.8 million before finishing its run with $330 million in North America. The film's success in India is particularly remarkable, where it earned an estimated Rs 90.30 crore net (approximately Rs 107.72 crore gross) by the end of its first week, setting a record for the highest-grossing IMAX opening in Indian box office history, surpassing Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

With a global opening weekend total of $264.1 million, The Odyssey has outperformed the openings of both The Dark Knight Rises ($249 million) and Oppenheimer ($180 million), marking the largest debut of Nolan's career. Furthermore, it has achieved the title of the biggest live-action opening of 2026 and is only the second film to earn over $50 million from IMAX screens worldwide in a single weekend.

Looking forward, industry analysts anticipate a strong second weekend for The Odyssey, as it faces no significant competition from other studios. With the film retaining all its IMAX and premium large-format screens, projections indicate it could earn between $61 million and $74 million in its second weekend, further extending its remarkable box office journey.
