Brad Pitt's Honest Confession on Mental Health
In light of Angelina Jolie's recent comments about her divorce from Brad Pitt and its impact on her family and well-being, Pitt has also shared his perspective on their challenging relationship. During an open conversation with Esquire, the acclaimed actor discussed the significant mental strain that family issues imposed on him, revealing that he faced suicidal thoughts for the first time during this tumultuous period.
Pitt, who is typically recognized for his positive demeanor, remarked, “I was never suicidal in any way. It was just not my makeup.” However, he admitted that there was a particularly dark time when he felt engulfed by despair. “I've never been suicidal except for one little period. And in that one little period, I just didn't see a way out,” he elaborated. He vividly described the weight of his emotions, stating, “I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief.” Despite these harrowing thoughts, he underscored the significance of survival instincts that ultimately guided him through his difficulties.
Additionally, Pitt disclosed that he has maintained sobriety for seven years but has recently started drinking in moderation. This revelation underscores the ongoing hurdles he faces in managing his mental health amid personal challenges. His insights come at a time when both he and Jolie are dealing with the repercussions of their highly publicized separation.
In a different interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Jolie shared her own experiences since the divorce, noting that she has not entered into any romantic relationships in the ten years following their split. “I'm thinking I have to live again. Be free again. In a way that maybe life has broken me a little bit,” she expressed, highlighting her aspiration to regain her independence and joy.
Angelina and Brad's relationship began in 2004 while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith, leading to a decade-long romance before they tied the knot in August 2014 at their estate in France. They raised six children together but ultimately parted ways in 2016, resulting in a lengthy divorce process that concluded in December 2024. Following their separation, some of their children have opted to drop Pitt's last name, while he is now reportedly in a relationship with model Ines de Ramon.
