Boston Strangler: What is the truth behind spine-chilling series? Here’s the actual story
One of the most spine-chilling events was the Boston strangulation that shook the nation in 1964. This popular crime has now been adapted into a Hulu movie called Boston Strangler, written and directed by Matt Ruskin. As the film releases on 17 March 2023, people are questioning if it is based on a true story or if there are any specks of truth in this crime series.
What is the real story?
In a 20-month period from 1962 to 1964, thirteen women between the ages of 19 and 85 were brutally murdered in Boston and nearby cities. Most of these victims were sexually assaulted and murdered in their own homes. The killer's first victim, Anna Slazers, was sexually assaulted and then murdered in her own apartment in 1962. The killer's last victim was nineteen-year-old Mary Sullivan, who was raped and murdered in 1964. An inmate with a history of burglary at a state mental hospital confessed to the crimes but was not charged because of pre-dated DNA evidence.
Who Was The Boston Strangler?
Albert DiSalvo confessed to killing thirteen victims and was widely believed to be the Boston Strangler. He was never convicted due to pre-dated DNA evidence that did not physically link him to the crime. However, nearly five decades later on July thirteenth, a fluid found in Mary Sullivan's body matched DeSalvo's body fluids. It was therefore confirmed that DeSalvo was responsible for the murder of Sullivan and was more likely responsible for the assaults and murders of the other victims.
How was Albert DeSalvo caught?
Albert DiSalvo was arrested in connection with the Green Man Rape and sent for psychiatric observation. During a conversation with his cellmate there, DeSalvo confessed to the murder and previously reported it to his lawyer.
