Madsen was discovered unresponsive at his residence in Malibu. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has stated that there are no indications of foul play.

Madsen began his acting journey in 1983 with the film 'WarGames,' portraying Lieutenant Steve Phelps. He went on to feature in several films, including Racing with the Moon, The Natural, The Killing Time, and Blood Red. His breakout role came in the 1992 classic 'Reservoir Dogs,' where he played the character Vic Vega, also known as Mr. Blonde.
His impressive filmography includes notable titles such as The Doors, Thelma & Louise, Free Willy, Species, and Die Another Day. Madsen is particularly celebrated for his performance in the 'Kill Bill' series, where he portrayed Budd.

Madsen's personal life included three marriages. His first marriage was to Georganne LaPiere, which ended in 1988. He then married Jeannine Bisignano in 1991, but they divorced in 1995. His third marriage was to DeAnna Morgan in 1996, with whom he had three sons. Tragically, his son Hudson passed away by suicide in 2022.
