The passing of the iconic actor Dharmendra has cast a shadow over the film industry. Known affectionately as the He-Man of Bollywood, he left this world on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. In the months following his death, Hema Malini has shared her journey through grief. During an appearance on Zoom's Spotlight Sessions, she fondly recalled her husband, describing him as a loving partner who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. She emphasized that such kindness is a rare quality.
Hema Malini Discusses Coping with Loss
When asked about her coping mechanisms after losing her husband, Hema Malini expressed her emotional struggle, stating, "If you ask me these questions, I will start getting tears, so I better don't (speak). It is a very emotional moment for me because the moment you just touch that part, then I can't talk to you." She reflected on her good fortune to have met Dharmendra early in her career and to have worked alongside him.
She reminisced about their collaboration in nearly 40 films, noting that 25 of those were significant hits. Hema described him as not only a wonderful husband but also a supportive friend and a wise mentor. "He was always ready to assist anyone in distress, a rare trait in someone who appeared so strong yet had a gentle heart," she added.
Hema Malini on Life's Challenges
As the conversation progressed, Hema Malini opened up about the challenges she faced in life, particularly in finding a life partner. She remarked that making that decision was her greatest challenge, but it unfolded smoothly, attributing it to divine grace. "What I wanted happened nicely without any problem," she shared.
For those unfamiliar, Hema Malini married her Sholay co-star Dharmendra in 1980. Their marriage lasted 45 years until his passing last year. They welcomed their first daughter, Esha Deol, in 1981, followed by their second daughter in 1985. On the professional front, Hema's latest acting role was in Shimla Mirchi, while Ikkis marked the posthumous release of Dharmendra's work.
