Goldberg made his comeback to WWE during the June 16 episode of Monday Night Raw, where he announced his intention to challenge the world heavyweight champion, Gunther. According to his promo, the two are set to face off at the Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 at the State Farm Arena, just before the all-women's Evolution premium live event.

WWE later confirmed via a press release that this match against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship would be Goldberg's last, emphasizing the significance of Atlanta in his storied career. However, speculation remains about whether this match will truly mark the end of his wrestling journey.

At the SummerSlam Kickoff press conference held at Fanatics Fest, veteran commentator Michael Cole suggested that while WWE is promoting this match as Goldberg's final bout, it might not be set in stone.

Jeff Jarrett's Take on Goldberg's Future

In further developments, AEW star and WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett expressed his belief that Goldberg is not retiring at the Saturday Night’s Main Event but is instead gearing up for one last run in the ring, rather than just a single match. On his My World podcast, Jarrett noted that the timing of Goldberg's return is advantageous for his career.

“I don’t think it’s gonna be his last match in Atlanta. I think he’s coming back for a run, if you will. Timing, as we’ve said so many times in this business, Bill Goldberg entered at the right time with the right streak, with the right company like WCW, he would have never had that kind of run of undefeated streak somewhere else. And Hogan was at the right position and felt that the ticket sales… just timing, timing, timing, timing.”

Gunther initially ignited a rivalry with Goldberg during the Bad Blood WWE premium live event in Atlanta last October, where Goldberg was present ringside with his family. Later, during the college football season on “SEC Nation,” it was hinted that Goldberg was preparing for a retirement match in 2025, although no specific details were provided.
