Details Surrounding Zubeen Garg's Death
Investigation into Zubeen's Tragic Accident
Zubeen Garg tragically drowned near Lazarus Island on September 19, 2025, just a day before he was scheduled to perform at the North East India Festival. He was in Singapore to participate in an event celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, which was subsequently canceled following the news of his death. Zubeen was a celebrated artist in Assam and the wider North East India region.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the Assam Police's CID has been looking into the circumstances surrounding Zubeen's death, and a chargesheet was filed in December 2025. The case is currently awaiting a hearing in a fast-track court.
Meanwhile, the State Coroner of Singapore, Adam Nakhoda, has ruled out any foul play in Zubeen's death, concluding that he drowned accidentally. The coroner's report indicated that Zubeen was significantly intoxicated at the time, with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding four times the legal limit, and noted that he had been drinking in the days leading up to his tragic accident.
