Ranjith Balakrishnan's Arrest Sparks Industry Reaction
Ranjith Balakrishnan has been taken into custody following allegations of sexual harassment, prompting a significant reaction from the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA). B Unnikrishnan, the General Secretary of the organization, announced that Ranjith will be suspended from all FEFKA activities until the legal proceedings conclude. This development comes as the filmmaker faces several charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In light of Ranjith Balakrishnan's arrest, FEFKA has adopted a strict approach. General Secretary B Unnikrishnan emphasized that the organization will adhere to its protocols by suspending members involved in serious allegations from its activities until the situation is resolved. This decision has been communicated to both the Directors’ Union and the Writers’ Union, which are expected to convene online for a formal resolution. This action reflects FEFKA’s commitment to accountability and maintaining professional integrity within the film industry.
Currently, Ranjith is in judicial custody for 14 days at the Ernakulam sub-jail. Before his remand, he was hospitalized at Ernakulam General Hospital due to health issues and was later presented before a magistrate in Thrippunithura.

The charges against Ranjith include multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, such as sexual assault, outraging a woman's modesty, wrongful confinement, and making obscene gestures. The investigation is being conducted by Ernakulam City Deputy Commissioner of Police Aswathy Jiji. Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Ranjith has denied any wrongdoing, claiming the accusations are unfounded. His bail application is pending court review.
