Reflections on His Career Journey
Manish Malhotra on parents' reacting to career choice
In a past conversation with Twinkle Khanna for her YouTube series, The Icons, Manish reflected on his parents' initial reactions to his decision to pursue fashion. He shared how his talent for clothing led him to dress his mother for various occasions. After noticing his academic strengths, his mother arranged for a tutor, who later informed her that Manish was primarily interested in fashion. He recounted, “I used to tell her your saree is not looking good, you should wear this jewellery with this saree.” Eventually, he began submitting his photos to agencies, which led to job offers. While his family initially thought he would become an actor, he found his passion working in a fashion boutique, where his love for clothing flourished. Manish noted that during that time, there were few men in the Indian fashion industry. He recalled how his relatives reacted with shock to his choice, questioning, “Do you want to become a lady's tailor?” Despite their initial concerns, they ultimately supported his career path. An official statement from Manish and his team is still awaited. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving family.
