The film Governor, starring Manoj Bajpayee, is set against the backdrop of the 1990s and draws inspiration from real-life events. Music composer Mannan Shaah has ingeniously blended sounds from the 80s and 90s, collaborating with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra to craft a unique background score. In a recent interview with Zoom, Mannan praised Bajpayee for his role as a leading figure in quality cinema and acknowledged his contribution to the Hindi film industry. He believes that with films like Governor, Bajpayee continues the legacy of the late Irrfan.

During his conversation with Zoom, Mannan expressed, “Governor is a remarkable film featuring Manoj Bajpayee, whom I greatly admire as an actor. He stands out as one of the finest talents in our country, and we have a limited number of such exceptional actors. Following Irrfan’s passing, Manoj has become a beacon of hope for quality performances. Working with the talented director Chinmay Mandlekar, who is also an accomplished actor, was a fantastic experience. We assembled a 50-piece orchestra to record the film’s score, with about 60% of it captured live, taking us back to the vibrant music scene of the 90s.”

Mannan further revealed that he was brought on board for Governor after the editing process was completed. “The director clearly outlined his vision, and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah played a significant role in shaping the film's music, given his unique taste. They aimed for a sound that was both traditional and contemporary, appealing to both older and younger audiences. To achieve this, we fused 90s orchestral elements with 80s rock influences, reminiscent of Bon Jovi. It’s rare to experiment with such music styles in 2026, but the team was open to innovative ideas,” he explained. Mannan also shared that the music for Governor was influenced by the sounds he grew up with, stating, “As a child of the 90s, I was inspired by artists like Kumar Sanu. I have a strong understanding of both Western and Hindi musical sensibilities, which made it easier for me to create the background score for Governor.
