Exploring the Legacy of Hawa: A Potential Sequel on the Horizon

Reflecting on Hawa's Unique Journey
In the early 2000s, Bollywood was still navigating the horror genre, and 'Hawa' emerged as a distinctive film, not only for its chilling atmosphere but also for featuring the selective actress Tabu in an unconventional role. In a recent interview, the filmmaker shared insights about the creation of 'Hawa', the stunning filming locations, the camaraderie among the cast and crew, and the intriguing possibility of a sequel.
Tabu's Involvement in Hawa
I recently watched Kajol in 'Maa', which brought back memories of Tabu in 'Hawa'. The film opens at Rohtang Pass, showcasing breathtaking snowy mountains as a red car travels with a woman and her two daughters. The location was remarkable, particularly a narrow bridge that spanned fifteen miles, allowing only one vehicle to cross at a time.
Discovering the Perfect Location
I first encountered this location while filming 'Jaal: The Trap'. It was then that I decided this would be the perfect spot for a horror film. Beyond the bridge lay a forest where we constructed an extensive set, designed by the talented Nitish Roy, who was also our director. The setting was truly spectacular.
Collaboration with Tabu
Working with Tabu during the film was an enjoyable experience. We faced challenges with special effects, which were not as advanced at the time, leading to creative discussions with the technical team. The process of making 'Hawa' was filled with fun and collaboration.
Thoughts on a Sequel
Had the special effects been more refined, the film might have achieved greater success. Nevertheless, I cherish the memories associated with 'Hawa', and the title still resonates with me. I often contemplate the idea of creating 'Hawa 2'. With the current trend of horror films, it seems like a viable project. Let's see what the future holds.
