In a recent conversation with People, Hatosy expressed enthusiasm about the idea of a night shift spinoff. The Emmy-winning actor noted that such a spinoff could highlight unique characters and intriguing medical scenarios.



Hatosy remarked, "Dr. Abbot chose the night shift because it attracts a distinct group of misfits who collaborate during those hours." Although there are no concrete plans at the moment, it appears that the series is laying the groundwork for a potential spinoff. Recently, it was revealed that Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, will be leaving the show after Season 2. Meanwhile, Ayesha Harris, who portrays Dr. Parker Ellis from the night shift, has been elevated to a series regular for Season 3. The night shift team has made sporadic appearances throughout the series.

Hatosy returned for Season 2 as a doctor assisting a SWAT team during an operation. He finds himself in the ER after sustaining injuries while on duty. The actor also directed an episode of the series after being encouraged by executive producer John Wells to take on a directorial role. Previously, he expressed his deep affection for his character Abbot, stating he would continue to portray him for "as long as they'll have me."
