Exciting News for Beer Lovers: British Beer Prices Set to Drop
Summer Beer Consumption on the Rise
As summer approaches, beer consumption tends to increase, often leading to shortages of favorite brands in stores. However, there's no need for disappointment anymore. If you enjoy a cold beer during the hot months, this news is sure to brighten your day.
New Trade Agreement Benefits Beer Prices
Following a recent trade agreement between India and the UK, significant reductions in import duties on British beer and Scotch whisky have been announced. This means that beers previously priced at 200 rupees could now be available for just 50 rupees.
On May 6, a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was established, which reduced the tax on imported beer from 150% to 75%. Consequently, British beer brands are expected to be offered at more affordable prices. The Indian beer market is projected to reach around 50,000 crores by 2024, with increasing popularity due to changing lifestyles and social culture. Southern states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are the largest consumers of beer in India, while Goa remains a major hub due to its liberal alcohol laws and tourism. Northern cities like Delhi and Chandigarh also show significant beer consumption.

Impact of the FTA on Other Alcoholic Beverages
In addition to beer, the FTA has also reduced the import duty on Scotch whisky from 150% to 75%. However, no concessions have been made for British wine, meaning wine prices will remain unchanged. This development will directly benefit beer enthusiasts in India and strengthen trade relations between India and the UK.
