DC Studios Unveils New Animated Projects

DC Studios, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation, has revealed an intriguing slate of animated projects that are set to launch in the upcoming years. Among these is the studio's inaugural anime series titled Joker: Laugh Riot. Directed by the acclaimed Yasuhiro Aoki, this series will follow the Joker on a violent journey through Gotham's criminal underbelly as he seeks to uncover the identity of Batman's murderer. Throughout this perilous adventure, the Joker will confront his own sense of self in the absence of his greatest rival, leading him to question his identity without Batman.

Alongside the Joker series, Warner Bros. Animation has also approved a new animated show featuring Krypto, Superman's canine companion. This project, helmed by CH Greenblatt, known for his work on Chowder and Jellystone, promises to deliver a delightful adventure. The narrative will showcase Krypto teaming up with a band of misfit criminals, whose chaotic behavior is met with Krypto's endearing yet chaotic nature. As the plot unfolds, Krypto's innate goodness may inspire unexpected transformations in his new companions.

During the announcement, executives Peter Safran, Sam Register, and Greg Girardi reiterated their dedication to providing a wide range of content suitable for audiences of all ages. They pointed out the success of adult-oriented animated series like Creatures Commandos and Batman: Caped Crusader, which is set to debut on Prime Video on July 31. The audience at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival reacted positively to the new projects, including Mister Miracle, with author Tom King expressing his enthusiasm for adapting his comic series for animation.

King articulated his vision for animation, drawing comparisons to critically acclaimed shows such as Breaking Bad and The Sopranos, and expressed his appreciation for the chance to bring Mister Miracle to the screen. Furthermore, the upcoming series Get Jiro, based on the Vertigo comic, is expected to premiere this fall on Adult Swim, continuing its legacy from the Annecy festival, where it was first announced three years ago.

Other projects currently in development include My Adventures with Green Lantern, a magical-girl inspired series, and Starfire!, produced by Josie Campbell. The tenth season of Teen Titans Go, which has become the longest-running show in DC's history, is also in the works. The announcement was celebrated with a special clip that highlighted the collaborative efforts of the DC and Warner Bros. animation teams, reinforcing their commitment to innovative storytelling in the realm of animation.
