This year's Cannes Film Festival is set to feature an impressive array of directors, including past Palme d'Or winners like Cristian Mungiu and Hirokazu Kore-eda. Notably, the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, a two-time Oscar recipient, will also compete with his latest work.
The only American director in this year's lineup is Ira, who will showcase his film *The Man I Love*, starring Rami Malek. The story unfolds during the AIDS crisis in New York City during the 1980s.
**A Strong Asian Presence**
Asghar Farhadi will be making his debut at Cannes with *Parallel Stories*. The festival also highlights a significant Asian representation, with the Japanese film *Sheep in the Box* receiving notable attention. Additionally, Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin's *Hope* is being celebrated as one of the festival's most anticipated films, marking his return since *The Wailing*.
Pedro Almodóvar, a two-time Oscar winner, is also in the competition with his film *Bitter Christmas*, which has already premiered in Spain.
**95% of Lineup Announced**
Cannes Chief Thierry Frémaux has announced that about 95% of the festival's lineup has been revealed, with the remaining films expected to be disclosed in the upcoming weeks. This year, the festival received submissions from 141 countries, highlighting its increasing global appeal.
The 2026 Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 12 to May 23, providing a prestigious platform for showcasing the best films from around the globe.
