Excitement Builds for Avengers: Doomsday as Cast Teases Dynamics at Comic-Con
Marvel Fans Eagerly Await Avengers: Doomsday
Anticipation is high among Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enthusiasts for the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters in December 2026. Recently, the cast of this highly awaited MCU installment attended Marvel's Hall H event during the San Diego Comic-Con in California. During the event, Pedro Pascal, who portrays Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four, shared insights about his character's relationship with Robert Downey Jr.'s villain, Victor von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in the forthcoming film. He humorously urged fans not to hold Reed accountable for the actions of Doctor Doom in the Russo Brothers' production.
Pedro Pascal Discusses Reed Richards and Doctor Doom's Relationship
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con, Pedro Pascal clarified that his character, Reed Richards, should not be blamed for the chaos that Robert Downey Jr.'s Victor Von Doom is expected to unleash in Avengers: Doomsday. He stated, “Intellectuals understand that we’re all responsible for ourselves.”
Pascal elaborated that he perceives Downey's character through the lens of Reed, rather than how audiences might typically view Doom. He remarked, “The world that we’re in, and the way that I understand it through Reed, at least, is very singular to the relationship that I have to Doom. And I guess there is a big barrier between the context that we all have as audience members to the experience of Avengers and the incredible way that all of it is threaded together, as we have X-Men sitting with us in this group.”
Robert Downey Jr. Responds to Pascal's Insights
Pedro Pascal also noted that it would be easy for him to focus solely on his character's perspective. He views Reed Richards as someone who has a complex relationship with Victor Von Doom. In response, Robert Downey Jr. humorously quipped, “That was verging on a filibuster; would you like another go?” This light-hearted exchange elicited laughter from the audience. In Marvel comics, Mr. Fantastic and Doctor Doom are known as arch-rivals, making their dynamic in Avengers: Doomsday particularly intriguing. The film is set to premiere on December 18, 2026, and features a star-studded cast including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, and others in significant roles.
