Emotional Season 3 Finale of 'Shrinking' Leaves Fans Eager for More
A Heartfelt Conclusion
Co-created by Bill Lawrence, along with Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, the series Shrinking has transformed into a touching narrative that explores themes of grief, loss, community, and healing. While it retains its comedic essence with an impressive cast, the Apple TV series concludes its third season with an episode titled 'And That's Our Time,' which brings the characters to a satisfying resolution. The finale raises questions about the future of Jimmy Laird (Segel) as he navigates the changes in his life, particularly with key figures like his mentor Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford) and daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) moving forward. Spoilers ahead!
Jimmy and Alice's Journey
Jimmy and Alice
Following the tragic loss of Tia (Lilan Bowden) in a car accident, both Jimmy and Alice have faced significant challenges. However, the finale reveals that they have reached a healthier place, even forming an unexpected friendship with Louis (Goldstein), the driver responsible for the accident. Alice is set to attend Wesleyan College on the East Coast, conveniently near Paul (Ford), who has relocated with his wife Julie (Wendie Malick) to be closer to his daughter Meg (Lily Rabe) as he copes with worsening Parkinson's disease. Although Alice is excited about her early college soccer training, she is concerned about leaving her father alone, especially after a recent altercation with Paul.

What's Happening with the Rest of the Shrinking Gang?
Despite Jimmy's attempt to reach out to Paul, he feels increasingly isolated as Sean (Luke Tennie) prepares to move into a new apartment and pursue a restaurant job. Meanwhile, neighbors Liz (Christa Miller) and Derek (Ted McGinley) are off to Barcelona for a couples trip with Derrick (Damon Wayans Jr) and Gaby (Jessica Williams). Gaby, having conquered her commitment fears, proposes to Derrick in front of their loved ones while planning to establish her trauma center. Additionally, Jimmy's close friend Brian (Michael Urie) is relocating to Tennessee with his husband Charlie (Devin Kawaoka) and their newborn daughter.
A Long-Awaited Conversation
Jimmy and Paul
The season culminates in a long-anticipated conversation between Jimmy and Paul. Paul briefly returns to provide Jimmy with the closure he desperately needs. He has arranged breakfast plans for Jimmy, but it’s Sofi (Cobie Smulders) who will join him. Paul offers Jimmy some hard truths, urging him to let go of his past and not allow his scars to hinder his future. When Jimmy expresses his fears of being a burden, Paul reassures him, stating, 'You're more of a son to me.' The emotional exchange concludes with Paul affirming his love for Jimmy, setting the stage for Jimmy to pursue a relationship with Sofi.
