Mumbai: At the 2026 Emmy Awards, R. Scott Gemmill's medical drama The Pitt and Katie Dippold's comedy horror series Widow’s Bay took home the top honors, being recognized as Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series, respectively, while also securing numerous other awards.
Hosted by actress Mariska Hargitay, The Pitt triumphed as the Outstanding Drama Series after leading the nominations with 25. Noah Wyle also earned the title of Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the show.
Despite its accolades, The Pitt did not win in the directing and supporting acting categories.
The series portrays the challenges faced by emergency department staff at a fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, unfolding over a single 12-hour shift filled with personal and professional turmoil.
Widow’s Bay made a significant impact in its debut year, winning Outstanding Comedy Series. Matthew Rhys was awarded Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, while Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root received the supporting acting awards. Hiro Murai was recognized for his directing, and Katie Dippold won for writing.
Set in a fictional New England island town, Widow’s Bay explores the chaos unleashed by a centuries-old curse that plagues the community.
Slow Horses received the award for Directing in a Drama Series, and Vince Gilligan was honored for his writing in Pluribus.
Hacks, which had 24 nominations for its final season, saw Jean Smart winning Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Rhea Seehorn from Pluribus won Lead Actress in a Drama Series, while Tom Pelphrey was awarded Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Task, and Allison Janney took home Supporting Actress for The Diplomat.
Pluribus is a post-apocalyptic science fiction series set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following a novelist who becomes isolated after an alien virus transforms humanity into a peaceful hive mind.
In the Limited or Anthology Series category, DTF St. Louis was recognized, and The Traitors won for Reality Competition Program.
Sally Field won Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for Remarkably Bright Creatures, making her the oldest recipient in this category, surpassing the previous record held by Jessica Tandy.
Tom Pelphrey also won for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, while Kate O’Flynn was recognized in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role in Widow’s Bay.
