Director Ribhu Sengupta Celebrates Nine Years of TE3N

Reflecting on a Cinematic Journey
As the suspense thriller TE3N marks its ninth anniversary, director Ribhu Sengupta shares insights about the film that featured iconic actors Amitabh Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. In an open discussion, he delves into the film's lasting impact, the exceptional talent of its cast, and his future creative endeavors.
A Milestone for TE3N
What are your thoughts on TE3N reaching its ninth year?
It’s hard to believe that TE3N has been around for nine years. The affection the film continues to receive is truly remarkable, particularly for Mr. Bachchan’s outstanding portrayal of a common man from North Kolkata seeking justice, which was a standout aspect of the film.
Bachchan's Impactful Performance
Does Mr. Bachchan still regard the film as significant?
His ability to immerse himself in the role of John Biswas, moving away from his long-standing image as the 'angry young man,' showcases his diverse acting skills. The film focused on intricate details, and his performance highlighted every nuance of the character's struggle, making it both emotional and gritty—a true masterclass.
A Stellar Cast
How effective were the other lead actors?
Having Vidya and Nawaz on board was like achieving a casting coup. They are incredibly talented in their respective genres, creating a fantastic blend of skill and humanity. Much credit also goes to Sujoy Ghosh for his faith in the project and for producing it.
Future Aspirations
If you were to remake TE3N today, what changes would you consider?
While I’m not certain about specific changes on paper, if I were to approach it creatively now, I might aim for a slightly faster-paced narrative.
What projects are you currently working on?
I have recently completed filming with Mr. Bachchan for a project titled Section 84 IPC. We are in the final stages of post-production and visual effects, followed by planning the release. Additionally, I am developing several scripts that I hope to direct, with one particular script I intend to produce by the end of this year or early next year.
