Understanding the Controversy Surrounding 'Satluj'
Originally titled Panjab 95, Satluj is a biopic directed by Honey Trehan, focusing on Jaswant Singh Khalra, who revealed the truth behind the deaths of 2000 individuals in Tarn Taran, Punjab, following the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Khalra was reportedly abducted and killed in 1995 after his findings led to global protests. Although the film was slated for a 2023 release, it faced hurdles from the Central Board of Film Certification, which demanded over 120 cuts due to its politically sensitive content. The filmmakers stood firm against these demands. Satluj was also intended to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, but this did not occur as the film awaited a decision from the Bombay High Court. After three years of anticipation, the film was quietly released on ZEE5. The cast includes Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky, Geetika Vidya, among others. Stay tuned for further updates!
