Diljit Dosanjh's 'Satluj' Hits Screens After Three-Year Delay

After nearly three years of delays, Diljit Dosanjh's eagerly anticipated film Satluj, previously known as Punjab 95, has finally been released. The film, which draws inspiration from the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, made its debut on ZEE5 this past Friday. Although the title has changed, the film's content remains intact. During an Instagram Live session celebrating the release, Diljit shared an important condition he had before promoting Satluj.

Diljit Dosanjh Discusses Uncut Release of 'Satluj'

In his Instagram Live with director Honey Trehan, Diljit expressed his joy that audiences can finally view the film after a long period of uncertainty. He noted that while the film could not keep its original title, Punjab 95, due to various reasons, the content has not been altered. He stated, "Our film has finally been released on Zee5. Unfortunately, we couldn't keep the original title Punjab 95 for certain reasons, so it is now called Satluj. But there are absolutely no cuts in the film." He further emphasized that he personally reviewed the final version before agreeing to promote it, adding, "The version I watched in theatres two years ago is exactly the same one I watched at home last week. If even a single cut had been made, I would not have promoted the film."

Overview of 'Satluj'

Diljit's comments come after the film faced nearly three years of delays due to disputes with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Reports indicated that the board requested over 100 cuts before granting certification, which significantly postponed the film's release. Directed by Honey Trehan and produced by RSVP Movies and MacGuffin Pictures, Satluj features Diljit alongside Kanwaljeet Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. The film tells the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra's relentless quest for justice during one of Punjab's most challenging times, highlighting his efforts to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of over 25,000 individuals during the insurgency, despite facing threats and political pressure. Diljit expressed that he chose this project due to the profound impact of Khalra's life and sacrifice, describing the screenplay as deeply moving and rooted in the real struggles of many. He regarded portraying the activist as a significant responsibility and one of the most meaningful experiences of his career.
