Diljit Dosanjh Voices Support for Student Protesters

Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has openly shown his solidarity with students who are protesting against the alleged leak of the NET exam papers. During demonstrations organized by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar, he called on officials to heed the students' concerns and condemned the violence that erupted during the protests. In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram stories, he expressed his dismay over the treatment of the students, stating, "What transpired today was unacceptable. Students deserve better treatment. I urge the authorities to listen to their demands. The people's voice is the voice of God."

Dosanjh highlighted the importance of addressing the students' issues through conversation rather than force. He also reflected on the personal repercussions he has faced for voicing his opinions on public matters, recalling instances where he was labeled anti-national for his views. He noted, "I have been branded as anti-national multiple times. Even now, I will likely be called that. After supporting the farmers' protest, I encountered significant backlash and legal troubles that I cannot openly discuss. Nevertheless, God sees everything. May God bless everyone."

The actor's remarks come in light of the criticism and legal challenges he faced after backing the farmers' movement. He mentioned that some of those experiences are still too painful for him to share publicly. For context, the Cockroach Janata Party is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to alleged irregularities related to the NETUG examination held on May 3.

Interestingly, this statement follows a previous live Instagram session where Dosanjh had a different viewpoint regarding the protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party. At that time, he claimed ignorance of the situation due to his touring commitments and requested fans not to associate him with political protests, asserting, "I am an artist, not a politician." However, in light of the violence during the NET protests, he has now decided to lend his voice to the growing chorus of celebrities addressing the controversy surrounding the alleged NET paper leak and the treatment of protesting students, which continues to capture national attention.
