Dhurandhar The Revenge: A Disappointing Debut in Japan
Dhurandhar's Box Office Journey
Aditya Dhar's film Dhurandhar The Revenge made a significant impact at the box office earlier this year, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2026 both in India and internationally. This espionage thriller set a new standard for future films in the spy genre. However, the franchise's first installment faced challenges upon its release in Japan on July 10. Despite its initial success and positive reviews globally, it struggled to attract Japanese audiences to theaters. The film's performance in Japan was surprisingly lackluster, failing to mirror the enthusiasm it garnered in India, Europe, and the United States.
Underwhelming Reception in Japan
Dhurandhar's Japan release falls short of expectations
Reports indicate that Dhurandhar premiered in approximately 80 theaters across Japan on July 10. However, it did not manage to break into the top 25 films during its opening weekend. On its first day, the film recorded only 449 admissions by 2 PM across 57 locations, with minimal growth later in the day. Ultimately, the total admissions reached just 900 across all 80 locations.
