Dhurandhar 2: The Midnight Show Dilemma in Mumbai Theatres

Dhurandhar 2 Takes Over Theatres Nationwide

The latest Bollywood film, Dhurandhar 2, is making waves in theatres across the nation, with many venues running shows late into the night. In major cities like Mumbai, premium cinemas are offering screenings that start as late as 1:30 am, 2:00 am, and even 3:50 am, all of which are selling out quickly. While multiplexes can afford to extend their hours, single-screen theatres face limitations due to the film's lengthy duration. Despite the competitive landscape, Manoj Desai, the executive director of G7 Multiplex and Maratha Mandir Cinema, has opted against adding late-night screenings. In a recent interview with a media outlet, he explained his reasoning for maintaining standard ticket prices, unlike many other cinemas in metro areas that have increased their rates.

Desai shared, “Currently, Gaiety Galaxy is only running three shows of Dhurandhar 2. Each show lasts 4.5 hours, which means the theatre operates for 12 to 14 hours daily. At night, public transport options like trains and buses are unavailable, which is why we have limited it to three shows.”

Why Mumbai Single-Screen Theatres Have No Midnight Shows of Dhurandhar 2?

When questioned about the possibility of introducing post-midnight screenings at Mumbai's renowned single-screen theatres, Desai remarked, “We don’t want to be overly ambitious. We are satisfied with our earnings and prefer to avoid the rat race; it simply doesn’t make sense.”

Desai firmly opposed raising ticket prices, stating, “We don’t believe in charging premium rates. Our ticket prices remain unchanged. While other theatres, like Kasturba, charge Rs 800, we maintain our pricing, which is why we see larger crowds. Our tickets are more affordable.”

According to BookMyShow, the cost of tickets for Dhurandhar 2’s late-night shows in Mumbai ranges from Rs 390 to Rs 1800, with preview prices reaching as high as Rs 3,000 in several metro areas.
