Legal Issues Surrounding Dhurandhar 2

The film Dhurandhar 2 successfully navigated various censor board hurdles before its Tamil release on March 21. Initially, it was set to debut in Tamil Nadu alongside its Hindi version on March 19. However, recent reports indicate that the film is now facing legal scrutiny. A petition has been submitted to the Madras High Court requesting a ban on the film in light of the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. The petition claims that Dhurandhar 2 may breach the Model Code of Conduct currently enforced for the state elections. Advocate Sheela has filed this plea in the Madras High Court.

Concerns Over Potential Ban

Advocate Sheela emphasized the urgency of the plea, citing the imminent Tamil Nadu elections. According to Daily Thanthi, she contends that the film's content could influence voters by presenting biased perspectives, which contravenes the Model Code of Conduct. The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari, along with Justice G Arul Murugan, has announced that the hearing will occur after the petition filing process is completed. The oral plea has been recognized as an official lawsuit.

Accusations of Propaganda

Following the release of Dhurandhar 2, some viewers have labeled the film as politically charged and propagandistic. Director Aditya Dhar incorporated real-life events from the tenure of the current ruling party, including the 2014 demonetization. In response to the allegations of the film being propaganda, Danish Iqbal, who portrays Bade Sahab, stated in an exclusive interview that he prefers to view the film simply as entertainment rather than a documentary. He encouraged audiences to appreciate it as a cinematic experience.
