Fans of Dhanush can rejoice as his first film of the year, titled Kara, has officially announced its release date. This action-packed thriller, directed by Vignesh Raja, showcases Dhanush in a compelling and intense role, promising a mix of high-stakes drama and exhilarating action. The news has sparked excitement across social media platforms, with fans eagerly anticipating its premiere. Recently, the title poster was revealed, featuring Dhanush with a fierce expression and the tagline, 'Sometimes, staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive.'
Kara: Release Date Confirmed
The film's title was unveiled during the Pongal festival, and it is now confirmed to hit theaters on April 30. Ishari K. Ganesh, the producer, shared this exciting update at the VELS Nakshatra 2026 cultural festival held at VELS University. Initially known as D54, the film officially received its title during the Pongal celebrations.
The teaser sets a dark tone for the film, introducing Dhanush as Karasamy, also referred to as Kara. It features intense scenes of conflict, revenge, and survival, including dramatic visuals of burning cotton fields and action sequences amidst heavy rain. The narrative follows Karasamy as he confronts his troubled past while facing threats to his family and community.
Mamitha Baiju's Admiration for Dhanush
Director Vignesh Raja expressed his excitement about Kara, describing it as a suspense thriller driven by emotion. He confirmed that the film is set for a summer release, heightening the anticipation among fans. Notably, the poster features the Netflix logo, indicating that the film will be available for streaming after its theatrical release. Mamitha Baiju, who stars alongside Dhanush, shared that she lost her focus during a scene due to Dhanush's captivating performance, marking a significant learning experience for her as an actress.

Kara boasts a talented cast, with Dhanush in the lead role and Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. The supporting cast includes well-known actors such as K. S. Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, and Prithvi Pandiraj. The story was co-written by director Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash, who previously collaborated on the successful thriller Por Thozhil. The film's technical team features GV Prakash Kumar as the music composer, Theni Eswar as the cinematographer, and Sreejith Sarang as the editor.
