What We Know About 'Kara'

Earlier this year, during Pongal, the film's title was officially announced along with a striking poster showcasing Dhanush in a compelling role. The tagline read, 'Sometimes, staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive.' Vignesh Raja confirmed the title change from D54 to 'Kara' on X, describing it as an emotionally charged suspense thriller set for a summer release. He also acknowledged producer Ishari K Ganesh and music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar.

Images from the set have surfaced, depicting Dhanush engaged in conversation at an STD booth, confirming that filming is in progress. The cast includes Mamitha Baiju as Selli, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as a police officer named Bharathan, Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, and Jayaram as Muthu Selvan. The narrative unfolds in Ramanathapuram during 1991, amidst the Gulf War, highlighting fuel shortages and unrest following attacks on oil depots over a span of 16 days.

'Kara' is co-written by Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash, produced by Ishari K Ganesh under Vels Film International, alongside Kushmitha Ganesh. The writers, who dedicated four years to perfecting the script of 'Por Thozhil', believe that collaborating enhances their creative process. The film's technical team includes cinematographer Theni Eswar, editor Sreejith Sarang, art director Mayapandi, and stunt choreographer Dinesh Kasi. 'Kara' is set to premiere in theaters on April 30.
