Protests Erupt for Justice in the Wake of Actor's Drowning


In a poignant demonstration of grief and demand for accountability, Priyanka Sarkar, the widow of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, joined fellow members of the West Bengal Motion Pictures Artists' Forum in a march on Saturday, April 4. This gathering came just a week after Banerjee's tragic drowning incident in Talsari, Odisha, while filming for his show, Bholebaba Paar Karega, on Star Jalsha. The forum is advocating for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Despite being rushed to Digha Hospital, the 43-year-old actor was pronounced dead upon arrival. An FIR has been lodged against the show's producers.


Priyanka Sarkar and the Artists' Forum Demand Accountability


The West Bengal Motion Pictures Artists' Forum organized a march to seek justice for Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. In Kolkata, participants, including his wife Priyanka Sarkar, marched from Technicians' Studio to Radha Studio, holding placards that read 'Justice for Rahul.' Prominent figures from the Bengali film industry, such as directors Aparna Sen, Anjan Dutt, Srijit Mukherjee, and actors like Parambrata Chatterjee and Rudranil Ghosh, were present, voicing their demands for justice regarding Banerjee's untimely demise.



A press conference was held outside the Regent Park police station, featuring actors Prosenjit Chatterjee, Santilal Mukherjee, and Rituparna Sengupta. An FIR was filed against the production company Magic Moments, which has failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the circumstances of Banerjee's death. The forum had reached out to the producers on April 1, but their response the following day did not address the pressing questions. According to reports, the forum is demanding that the true circumstances of the incident be revealed. Priyanka Sarkar chose not to address the media during this time.
