However, this Instagram Story is not authentic and was never posted by the actress.

Debunking the Fake Post

Deepika Padukone's Alleged Support for Sonam Wangchuk

The viral Instagram Story claims that Deepika shared a quote regarding Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike, stating: "He is fasting. We are scrolling. That's the state of our democracy. Dissent is not anti-national, apathy is." It further alleges that she added a caption expressing concern over the lack of discussion about the situation, stating, "We are living through the darkest hour of democracy. No matter how many films are made to glorify a failed leader, the reality remains unchanged."

Fact-Checking the Allegation

Verifying Deepika's Statements

Despite the rapid spread of this post on social media, including its re-sharing by the Chief Spokesperson of the Cockroach Janta Party, Saurav Das, it has been confirmed as false. Deepika Padukone has not made any statements regarding Wangchuk's hunger strike. The Pathaan actress has not commented on the student protests led by the CJP either. This situation arises as many in Bollywood face scrutiny for their silence on Sonam's hunger strike. Notable figures like Soni Razdan, Shabana Azmi, Abhay Deol, and Swara Bhasker have shared messages urging Sonam to prioritize his health. Please end your fast today." Shabana Azmi also expressed, "Dear Sonam Wangchuk, our country needs a person like you. You stand against injustice, stand for truth, we are proud of you. That's why we request you to break your fast because your guidance for our students increases their courage. This fight has to be fought till the end, so you need to be healthy. We are with you."
