Los Angeles: Renowned actress Deepika Padukone is set to receive a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, potentially marking her as the first Indian to achieve this prestigious accolade.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Walk of Fame, announced this exciting news via their official Instagram account on Wednesday evening.
The announcement stated, “A new group of entertainment professionals across various categories, including Motion Pictures, Television, Live Theatre/Live Performance, Radio, Recording, and Sports Entertainment, have been selected to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame by the Walk of Fame Selection Panel.”
They further expressed, “We are thrilled to welcome you to the Walk of Fame Class of 2026!”
Padukone will be honored alongside a stellar lineup of Hollywood talents such as Emily Blunt, Timothee Chalamet, Marion Cotillard, Stanley Tucci, Rami Malek, Rachel McAdams, Demi Moore, and filmmakers Chris Columbus and Tony Scott.
From the television sector, notable figures like 'The Office' creator Greg Daniels, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chef Gordon Ramsay, Bradley Whitford, and Noah Wyle will also be recognized.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame, featuring over 2,700 brass stars embedded in the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, celebrates significant contributions to the entertainment industry and attracts tourists from around the globe.
Each star honors artists from film, television, music, radio, and live performance, acknowledging their influence on popular culture.
The honorees were selected from numerous nominations during a committee meeting on June 14, 2024, and were ratified by the Hollywood Chamber's Board of Directors on the same day.
Since her Hindi film debut in 2007 with Om Shanti Om, Padukone has risen to become one of India's leading stars, featuring in acclaimed films like Love Aaj Kal, Piku, Bajirao Mastani, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Padmaavat, Chhapaak, and Gehraiyaan.
Her Hollywood debut came with the 2017 action film XXX: Return of Xander Cage, where she starred alongside Vin Diesel. In 2018, she was recognized as one of TIME magazine's 100 most influential people and received the TIME100 Impact Award.
Additionally, Padukone served on the main competition jury at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2022.
Currently, she is engaged in several projects, including an untitled film directed by Atlee, featuring Allu Arjun.
