Dan Levy Confirms No Sequel for Schitt's Creek After Catherine O'Hara's Passing
Dan Levy Discusses the Future of Schitt's Creek
Dan Levy, the creator of Schitt's Creek, has firmly stated that a sequel to the beloved Canadian comedy series is not in the cards. The actor and filmmaker, who starred alongside his father Eugene Levy and Annie Murphy, expressed that the idea of rebooting the show feels unimaginable following the passing of Catherine O’Hara. O'Hara, who portrayed the unforgettable Moira Rose, passed away on January 30 at the age of 71 due to a pulmonary embolism, having previously battled rectal cancer. Levy became emotional while reflecting on the challenges of continuing the series without her iconic character.
Reflections on a Possible Sequel
In a recent interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Levy revisited Goodwood, Ontario, the filming location for the award-winning series, marking his first visit since the show concluded in 2020. He took a nostalgic tour of various filming sites, including Rose Apothecary, the shop owned by his character David. When asked about the possibility of returning to Schitt’s Creek, Levy confirmed that he could not envision doing so after O'Hara's death. Although he had previously contemplated a sequel, he admitted that being back in the town was emotionally challenging. He nearly broke down while reminiscing about O'Hara's comedic brilliance, emphasizing the importance of cherishing memories of her.
About Schitt’s Creek
Co-created by Dan and his father Eugene, Schitt's Creek tells the story of the affluent Rose family, consisting of Johnny (Eugene), his wife Moira (O'Hara), and their children David (Dan) and Alexis (Murphy). After being swindled, the family loses their fortune and relocates to the small town of Schitt’s Creek, which they had previously purchased as a joke. The show garnered critical acclaim, with the entire main cast winning Emmy Awards in 2020, sweeping all major comedy categories. The series ran for six successful seasons, totaling eighty episodes, and featured a talented ensemble cast including Jennifer Robertson, Emily Hampshire, Tim Rozon, Chris Elliott, Dustin Milligan, Sarah Levy, and Noah Reid.
