Curry Barker's Journey to 'Obsession'
Director Curry Barker has made a significant mark with his films The Chair and Milk & Serial, leading to his latest project, Obsession, which is currently dominating the international box office. Prior to its theatrical release, Barker garnered attention with his debut film, Milk & Serial, which was released directly on YouTube. As Obsession gains popularity, producer James Harris has expressed his admiration for Barker's work. In a statement, Harris reflected on his experience watching The Chair, stating he was thoroughly impressed. When Barker presented Obsession, it was an obvious choice for him.
Why 'Obsession' Marks Barker's Theatrical Debut
Why did Curry Barker direct Obsession as his first theatrical release
“I was amazed by the cinematic quality of The Chair,” Harris remarked, noting that he reached out to Barker after viewing it. He recognized Barker as a ‘hungry and exceptionally talented’ filmmaker. “Curry possesses a keen understanding of genre. He knows how to create scares while also adding depth to his projects,” he added. Initially, Harris was interested in developing a feature adaptation of The Chair with Barker, but when Barker proposed Obsession, Harris felt it was the right fit. “The concept of Obsession was brilliant. It’s clever and aligns perfectly with modern horror, making it an easy decision,” he stated.
