Mumbai, October 7: Cricketing greats Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri are set to deliver a delightful blend of nostalgia, cricket stories, and humor on the fifth season of Kapil Sharma's The Great Indian Kapil Show.
Ravi Shastri will make his first appearance on this comedic talk show, joining Gavaskar for an engaging dialogue with host Kapil Sharma.
The discussion took a nostalgic turn when Kapil displayed images of the legendary West Indies team, prompting Sunil Gavaskar to share how he faced some of the fastest bowlers of his time without the safety of a helmet.
Reflecting on his fearless mindset, the iconic cricketer recounted facing balls clocking nearly 150 km/h, humorously stating, “Andar bheje mein kuch nahi tha.”
The episode also delved into Gavaskar’s profound bond with Indian cricket and the significance of representing the nation.
The veteran cricketer reminisced about a time when playing for India was a prestigious honor, highlighting how players confronted some of the most fearsome fast bowlers without the protective gear that is standard today.
The conversation shifted to the early career of Navjot Singh Sidhu, who shared his experience of being selected for the Indian team at just 18 and rooming with then-captain Ravi Shastri. His amusing encounter with Shastri and the latter's repeated requests to step outside led to a funny locker-room story on the show.
Gavaskar also discussed his choice to retire from international cricket at 38, providing insight into one of the most significant decisions of his life.
The former players further explored how the sport has evolved over the years, especially with the introduction of the Indian Premier League. Sidhu reminisced about summers spent traveling to England for cricket, contrasting it with the IPL's impact, which brings together players and teams from around the globe for two months of intense competition in India.
Adding to the cricket-themed fun, comedian Sunil Grover made a special appearance dressed as the legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. Standing behind Ravi Shastri, Grover humorously remarked, “Kaafi confusion hai, Ravi ji ke aage ek Kapil Sunil aur Ravi ji ke peeche Kapil Sunil, teetar vaali baat hogayi na yeh,” which had both guests and the audience in stitches.
