Controversy Erupts Over Ranveer Singh's Role in 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'
Mumbai Sikh Organization Raises Concerns
In Mumbai, a Sikh organization has lodged a police complaint against the creators of the hit film Dhurandhar: The Revenge and its star, Ranveer Singh, claiming that the film offends the religious feelings of the Sikh community, as reported on Wednesday.
The complaint, filed by 'Sikhs in Maharashtra', points to a promotional poster where Singh is seen wearing a turban, sporting a long beard, and adorned with a 'kada' (a sacred bracelet). These elements are revered symbols within the Sikh faith.
However, the portrayal of Singh holding a cigarette has sparked outrage, as it is perceived to disrespect these sacred symbols, according to the complaint submitted to the Mulund police station on March 17.
The organization is calling for action against the film's director, producer, and Singh himself.
As of now, no formal charges have been filed, and the police are currently investigating the matter.
Released on March 19, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already surpassed Rs 700 crore in global box office earnings. This film is a sequel to the 2025 hit Dhurandhar, which grossed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide.
The sequel follows Singh's character, Hamza Ali Mazari, as he navigates the Karachi underworld while exploring his backstory as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, detailing his transformation into a covert operative.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar and is available in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
