Legal Complaint Filed Against Actor Prakash Raj

Tirupati: A legal complaint has been lodged against actor Prakash Raj in a Tirupati court due to his controversial comments about Hindu deities and the epic Ramayana.

The complaint was filed by Bhanuprakash Reddy, a BJP leader and member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust Board, in the IV-Additional Judicial Magistrate's court on Monday. He accused the actor of making 'inflammatory' remarks during the Kerala Literature Festival and other public events.

The complaint alleges that Prakash Raj suggested that Lord Rama and Lakshmana traveled from North India to 'invade' the South, which he likened to 'Lanka'.

Reddy stated that he encountered a video on social media on April 17, where the actor made 'highly derogatory, factually incorrect, inflammatory, and malicious statements' about Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and the revered Ramayana.

According to the complainant, these statements, which have been widely shared online, have caused significant distress and anger within the Hindu community.

The complaint further claims that the actor has intentionally promoted the divisive 'Aryan-Dravidian' theory, inciting regional tensions and undermining India's cultural and religious unity, while deliberately insulting Hindu deities and scriptures to provoke religious sentiments.

Reddy contends that the actor's actions constitute an insult to religious feelings, which disrupts public peace, religious harmony, and community beliefs.

He also pointed out that the statements made by the accused fall under section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and section 196 (promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, or place of birth) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The complainant has urged the court to review the complaint, acknowledge the offenses, and summon the accused for legal action.
