Incident at Cultural Event

Masoom Sharma, a well-known Haryanvi singer, songwriter, and composer, has found himself in hot water following an incident at a cultural event held at DAV (PG) College in Dehradun. The artist, recognized for tracks like Chambal Ke Dakku and Lofer, reportedly used offensive language while addressing an individual he accused of attempting to harm him. After his speech, he allegedly directed insults at the individual in question. This incident unfolded after Sharma shared the stage with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and discussed a security concern, leading to significant controversy and a formal complaint against him for "hurting public sentiments and disrupting decorum at the programme."

Legal Action Taken

The Uttarakhand Police have initiated legal proceedings against Sharma for his inappropriate remarks during the event. The complaint was lodged by Pranchal Nauni, a representative of the college's Satyam Shivam student group. Authorities have charged Sharma under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which include provisions related to obscene behavior, derogatory language, disrespect towards women, and criminal intimidation. An investigation is currently in progress, and footage of the incident has circulated widely on social media.

Sharma's Apology

In light of the backlash, Sharma has issued an apology, explaining that his choice of words stemmed from stress and sleep deprivation due to the alleged threats he faced. MLA Umesh Kumar, who was present during the incident, stated that he attempted to intervene but was pushed aside. He mentioned that a gangster from Haryana had been stalking Sharma and had even appeared in Dehradun, causing the singer considerable anxiety.
