Controversy Arises Over Oscars Tribute Snubs, Including Dharmendra
Oscars Tribute Controversy
At the recent 98th Academy Awards, several notable international stars, including the iconic Bollywood figure Dharmendra, were not acknowledged in the tribute segment. This omission sparked outrage among his fans and fellow celebrities. Hema Malini, Dharmendra's wife, voiced her strong disapproval of the situation. In response, Rob Mills, an executive producer of the Oscars, provided insights into the selection process for posthumous tributes.
Decision-Making Process
In a conversation with *Variety*, Rob Mills explained that the 'Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' (AMPAS) is responsible for deciding which individuals are honored during the ceremony. He acknowledged, "We lose many remarkable figures each year, and as a result, some names may unintentionally be omitted."
Hema Malini's Reaction
In an interview with *Bollywood Hungama*, Hema Malini expressed her disappointment, stating, "It is truly shameful. They overlooked an actor who holds great importance for countless people worldwide in various ways."
"Dharmendra was a globally celebrated personality. Throughout his career, he did not receive many accolades. So why should he be concerned about the Oscars? We have always found joy in the love from our own country. Yet, awards have often eluded him. I, too, have not received recognition for my roles in films like *Lal Patthar* and *Meera*."
Other Notable Absences
Interestingly, despite the lengthy 'In Memoriam' segment, several other well-known figures, such as Eric Dane, Brigitte Bardot, and James Van Der Beek, were also not honored alongside Dharmendra.
Dharmendra's Passing
It is important to mention that Dharmendra passed away on November 24 of the previous year. Many Bollywood personalities attended his funeral to pay their respects and honor his legacy.
