What to Expect from Alia Bhatt's Alpha: A New Chapter in the YRF Spy Universe
Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Lead the Charge in Alpha
The highly anticipated film Alpha, featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, marks the seventh entry in the YRF Spy Universe and has kicked off its advance ticket sales with impressive results. As conversations swirl around the film directed by Shiv Rawail and the future of this spy franchise, Alpha is poised to play a pivotal role. The initial ticket bookings indicate a strong start, especially important for Alia, whose last release, Jigra, did not meet box office expectations.
Advance Sales Exceed Rs 2 Crore
Advance ticket sales for Alpha began on July 1, quickly gaining traction across the country. According to data from Sacnilk, the film sold over 18,000 tickets, raking in nearly Rs 71 lakh in ticket sales at the time of reporting. When factoring in reserved seats, the total climbs to Rs 2.1 crore, with industry experts predicting it will surpass Rs 3 crore as more screenings are added leading up to the release date.
Maharashtra has emerged as the leading market, contributing over Rs 47 lakh in advance sales, closely followed by Delhi, while Gujarat has made a smaller but steady contribution. The film has secured around 2,390 screenings for its opening day across India, indicating that YRF has strategically managed the initial screen count.
Experts in the industry view this as a solid start for a female-led action film, a genre that has historically faced hurdles at the Indian box office. Projections suggest that Alpha could achieve a net collection of approximately Rs 7-8 crore on its opening day, with the real challenge being whether walk-in audiences on Friday can push it into double-digit figures once it hits theaters.
YRF's Strategic Approach for Alpha's Release
YRF has reportedly provided specific instructions to exhibitors regarding the presentation of Alpha. Ticket prices have been set in line with those of Akshay Kumar's Welcome To The Jungle, which continues to perform well in cinemas, and the first screenings are not allowed to start before 9:30 AM. Additionally, there will be no paid preview screenings.
Alpha is scheduled for a global release on July 3, facing no major direct competition, although it will still compete for screens with the ongoing Welcome To The Jungle, Cocktail 2, and Main Vaapas Aaunga. Furthermore, it will contend with Dhamaal 4 in the following week.
