Sundar C Exits Thalaivar 173: Insights on His Decision
Sundar C Steps Away from Thalaivar 173
The highly anticipated film Thalaivar 173, which aims to unite the legendary actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, was first announced in November of the previous year, with a release date set for Pongal 2027. Initially, Sundar C was slated to direct the film. However, shortly after the announcement, he withdrew from the project, citing unforeseen circumstances. Months later, Sundar C has elaborated on his decision, discussing the challenges he faced and his unique approach to filmmaking.
Sundar C Discusses His Departure from Thalaivar 173
In a recent conversation with Behindwoods, Sundar C revealed the reasons behind his exit from the film shortly after its announcement. He expressed that the pressure was overwhelming. For the past 16 years, he has directed films based on his instincts about audience preferences, but he felt unable to convey his vision effectively during production.
He admitted to struggling with film narration and mentioned that he often compromises without standing firm on his ideas. Sundar C realized that taking on a project of this magnitude would mean relinquishing some creative control, which ultimately led him to step back early in the process.
Before making his decision public, he communicated with Rajinikanth, ensuring that the actor was informed of his choice. Following Sundar C's departure, Cibi Chakravarthy was appointed as the new director, tasked with developing a fresh narrative for the film.
Sundar C's Upcoming Projects
Recently, Sundar C appeared in Gangers (2025) and is currently working on Purushan, featuring Vishal and Tamannaah Bhatia. This film marks another collaboration for Sundar C after Aambala and Madha Gaja Raja. Produced by Benzz Media and presented by Khushbu Sundar, the film's music is composed by Hiphop Tamizha and centers around a husband concealing a violent nature.
