Scream 7's Box Office Success

The seventh chapter of the legendary horror series, Scream 7, is approaching the end of its theatrical journey after nearly two months in theaters. Featuring Neve Campbell, the film debuted with a robust $63.6 million from 3,540 locations in North America and has accumulated a total of $121.9 million domestically. Over the weekend of April 24-26, it added $67,000 from the remaining 149 theaters still showcasing the film. With an impressive international haul of $91.9 million, the global earnings now reach $213.8 million.

Although it holds a modest 30% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Scream 7 has become the highest-grossing horror film of 2026 and ranks as the seventh overall highest-grossing film this year, as reported by Box Office Mojo. As it nears the end of its theatrical run, projections suggest it could add another $1.2 million globally, pushing its total to $215 million. This performance places it well ahead of the franchise's previous record-holder, the original Scream from 1996, which grossed $173 million worldwide.

With a production budget of $45 million, Scream 7 needed to earn around $112.5 million to break even, following the standard 2.5x multiplier rule. Its current global earnings of $213.8 million indicate a theatrical surplus of approximately $101.3 million, exceeding the $100 million threshold. As it continues to be screened in select theaters, there remains potential for the film to add another $1-2 million to its estimated profit.

Despite its impressive $101.3 million surplus, Scream 7 still falls short of two other films in the slasher series. The original Scream (1996) brought in $138 million, while its sequel, Scream 2 (1997), earned about $112.4 million in box office profit. Thus, the seventh installment ranks as the third-highest in terms of theatrical profit within the franchise.

Additionally, Scream 7 has achieved the highest profit among horror films released in 2026, outperforming several competitors in the genre, including Send Help, Iron Lung, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Directed by Kevin Williamson, the film introduces a new Ghostface killer who disrupts the peaceful life of Sidney Prescott, portrayed by Neve Campbell, as she confronts her past to safeguard her family from further threats.
