Rohit Shetty's Golmaal 5 Faces Security Threats Amid Legal Troubles
Filming Under Threat
Director Rohit Shetty has begun shooting for the much-anticipated Golmaal 5 in Mumbai, featuring stars like Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, amidst heightened security concerns. Earlier this year, Shetty received a death threat from the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, prompting him to seek additional protection from the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Deven Bharti. Unfortunately, his request for enhanced security has reportedly been denied. In a bid to ensure his safety, Shetty has placed ‘Police’ labels on his personal vehicles and installed police-like lights, although he lacks the necessary permissions to do so.
Legal Implications of Shetty's Actions
What led to Rohit Shetty facing legal issues?
As reported by Mid-Day, Shetty has altered at least two of his SUVs to display police markings. This action violates Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, which prohibits unauthorized use of such insignia. Only law enforcement officials are permitted to use these markings.
Official Statements on the Matter
What do the officials say?
A senior traffic officer confirmed to Mid-Day that displaying a 'Police' sticker and lights is strictly reserved for law enforcement personnel. Investigations revealed that the SUVs in question are registered under Shetty’s name. A senior RTO official emphasized that according to the revised Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, a ‘Police’ sticker or logo is not allowed on private vehicles.
Attack on Shetty's Residence
Attack on Rohit Shetty's residence
On January 31, Rohit Shetty's residence in Juhu was attacked by unidentified gunmen, with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claiming responsibility for the incident. Following the attack, police increased security around Shetty's home. This gang is infamous for previously threatening Bollywood actor Salman Khan over his alleged involvement in the Black Buck Poaching case during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hai in Rajasthan. In a Facebook post, gang members Shubham Lonkar, Arju Bishnoi, and Hari Boxer Hasan Sambhu admitted to the shooting, warning Shetty against interfering in their affairs. They claimed that if he continued to disregard their warnings, the next attack would occur inside his home.
As of now, Rohit Shetty and his legal team have not commented on the unauthorized use of police stickers and lights on his vehicles.
